Tradescantia zebrina
Tradescantia zebrina is a classic! Its variegated foliage is striped green, white and gray with purple undersides. Ovate leaves clasp the stem at the base 1-inch apart, hence the common name “Inch Plant”. Popular as a houseplant in a hanging basket or cascading over the edge as “the spiller” in your combination planter. Tolerates a wide range of growing conditions and lighting, from a few hours of direct sun where its colors will be the most vibrant, to filtered light where its color contrast will be a bit more subdued. Water lightly when top 1″ feels dry to the touch. Appreciates evenly moist soil during the growing season, but does not like soggy soil where it is prone to rot.
