Bromeliad Aechmea fasciata ‘Silver Urn’
Aechmea fasciata ‘Silver Urn’, also referred to as ‘Silver Vase’ is a stemless, evergreen perennial that grows 1–3 ft tall. It has a rosette of broad, strap-shaped leaves that arch away to form a vase or urn shape. The silvery green foliage will develop wide horizontal silver bands as it matures, and produces a single, spectacular bloom that lasts for several months. The bloom is a dense, pyramidal head of small violet flowers surrounded by showy pink bracts. After the original plant dies, offsets form at the base of the plant that can easily be transplanted when they are at least 6″ tall. These plants have shallow root systems and actually rely on their epiphytic tank more than their roots to get the water they require to grow. Water directly into the cup of the center of the plant when watering.
