Medinilla balls-headleyi
Smooth, leathery foliage emerges red and matures to a deep green. Usually grows as a tree-top vine which climbs by its roots, but occasionally flowers and fruits as a scandent shrub. Once mature, showy pink flowers emerge along the stems, followed by red berries. Flowers well in containers and hanging baskets indoors in bright light and outdoors in shade to dappled morning sunlight.
*Note to Customers: Medinillas excrete small, round, semi-translucent grains known as “growth sugars”. These growth sugars are completely harmless to the plant and having growth sugars present is actually a tell-tale sign that that plant is healthy and thriving in its current growing conditions. These can be removed with a damp cloth and standard dish soap if you prefer.
